150 young people from schools, youth groups and churches have already taken part in our new Urban Education Options which offer a range of interactive activities to help develop empathy and inspire them to get involved in their community.
Although we’ve now grown to some 1200 staff and volunteers across South Australia, the heart of Baptist Care SA beats steadfastly as ever, from our site in Adelaide’s Inner City.
It was here, over a hundred years ago in Adelaide’s once notorious West End, that Baptist Care SA was established.
It is here where so many services to people experiencing homelessness and disadvantage, remain today.
And this is where a real Urban Education takes place.
Activities are wide and varied, including “rough sleep outs”, Q and A sessions and practical help with meals preparation and service.
‘The young people receive a real “hands-on” education, closely supervised by trained staff,’ explains Community Development Manager Craig McGlone. ‘We work with individual schools, churches and youth groups and we say “what’s your need?” and we work to meet those needs through the experiences we offer.’
