For over 20 years, Dawn has been coming to Baptist Care SA’s Inner City site once a week to support local people who are struggling.
After ignoring consistent calls for WestCare Centre volunteers in her church bulletin, Dawn was finally convinced that God was telling her something and put her hand up to help.
It turned out to be perfect.
Dawn began by serving meals, but has spent at least 18 years interviewing people in financial hardship for emergency relief such as food parcels and vouchers.
Dawn’s passion for the people she serves and the enjoyment she gains from getting to know them and their stories is obvious.
“Everyone has a story to tell, and I like listening,” she says. “I do hear some sad stories but people share their highs and lows and it’s such a joy to listen to people tell you about how they have a place to live in after being homeless.”
”I’m doing a job where I’m helping people in a way that I couldn’t personally do myself, but I can do it in partnership with Baptist Care SA.”
Thank you Dawn for over 20 years of service dedicated to helping others in the community. And thank you to all our volunteers across the State who are making such a difference in people’s lives.
Baptist Care SA has volunteering opportunities in a range of different roles, including working in Emergency Relief like Dawn, or for mentors, cashiers and kitchenhands in our other programs.
