Community Care Program
In October 2010 the Prime Minister of Australia made a pledge to have no children in detention. The Community Care Program supports young unaccompanied asylum seekers in a community residential setting that would have otherwise stayed in these detention facilities.
Baptist Care provides 24 hour care, support, advocacy and resilience building for the young asylum seekers while they attend school and learn about the Australian community. Over the past 18 months Baptist Care has successfully assisted 50 young people to start their new life in Australia through the Community Care Program. This program is funded by the Department of Immigration and Citizenship.
