Innovative Community Action Networks (ICAN)

The ICAN program seeks to provide young people with mentoring relationships which can provide a positive influence in their lives and help in their career and personality development. Flexible Learning Options case managers engage with our young clients, helping them develop positive pathways for their future and addressing any barriers that are impacting on their education and/or employment goals.

ICAN offers a holistic approach that supports students with a view to addressing their personal, educational and life barriers. Our mentoring programs are usually school based, however, outreach and home visits can be arranged whenever required. We utilise a mix of individualised and group work approaches and work with a retention focus to identify successful, flexible learning opportunities and pathways for students.

Individualised, one-to-one assistance, personal support and counselling is always available, whereas group activities are arranged to suit the needs of small groups.

Program services include the following:
• Personal and life skills: Assisting students to develop specific personal learning and life skills.
• School Holiday Support: Services offered throughout the year, including school holidays.
• Referral to Specialist Services and Advocacy: Engaging with community organisations, health professionals, housing associations etc. on behalf of students.
• Education and Training: Supported transition and linkages to alternative education and training opportunities such as Work Experience activities.
