Baptist Care (SA) Foundation

A Vision of Great Value

Baptist Care (SA) is the Community Services and Aged Care ministry of the Baptist Churches of SA. It exists

‘to encourage, support, influence and extend those ministries of the Baptist Churches of SA that encourage hope, develop skills, alleviate distress, enrich life and otherwise express through practical
actions the love of God and the compassion and redemptive purposes of Jesus Christ to people who are aged and for the direct relief of poverty, sickness, suffering, distress, misfortune, disability or
helplessness.’
(Clause 4.1 of BC(SA) Constitution)

Historically, apart from various service user and resident fees derived from its Camping and Residential Aged Care ministries and limited donor support received from within the Baptist community applied to operating the Westcare Day Centre, most Baptist Care (SA) funding results from delivering programs defined by Government policy allocated through tender processes.

Whilst these programs certainly fit within BC(SA)’s constitutional imperative, because of funding constraints they have no guarantee of longevity beyond the current tender period and their longevity, continuity and long term outcomes are often defined by changes in Government policy and other factors.

Much greater value could be released through ongoing availability to Baptist Care (SA) of discretionary funding for programs of its own choice that, for whatever reason, Government funding is not available to satisfy.

An Exciting Possibility

Baptist Care (SA) Foundation has been established to harvest this possibility and DGR (Deductible Gift Recipient) status obtained.

Interim Directors under the chairmanship of Dr Rob Wight have been appointed to the Board of its Trustee, Baptist Care Nominees Pty Ltd, but the need exists to identify more suitably qualified persons to join this Board and provide strong fundraising, financial, legal and governance oversight.

Legislation governing the operation of DGR Funds requires the majority of Board members to be “persons of responsibility”, defined as including a range of recognised professions including judges/magistrates, solicitors, selected levels of accountants, ASX listed company directors, medical practitioners, teachers in senior positions, members of the Clergy, JP’s or persons holding or having held various public positions.

Others with strategic business experience and connections, especially those in circles having potential to release corporate funding to the Foundation, may also be appointed.
