Staff

Jim Staude is the Team Leader of BC(SA) Adventure Camping and oversees the day-to-day running and on-going development of the Campsite.  Jim began working at Mylor back in 1999 and has an extensive knowledge of the camping industry.  Jim takes care of all Campsite and Retreat Centre bookings, keeps in touch with group coordinators prior to arrival, and then makes sure camps run smoothly through to departure.

Jim is married and has five children.  His passion is seeing young people getting involved in sport and outdoor activities and developing relationships with each other.  This passion carries over into his home life where he is heavily involved in his children’s sport and with the youth at his local church.

Dave Lister is the Program Coordinator at Mylor Campsite and joined the team in January 2008.  Dave makes sure each school gets the best activities for their group, and that programs run smoothly every day.

Dave is married and enjoys sharing his passion for Christian camping with his wife who also works in the industry.  Coming from a mixed background of youth work and outdoor recreation, Dave sees the activities as a medium for teachers, leaders, instructors and parents alike to build supportive relationships with young people on camp.

Cathie Sharp joined the team at Mylor Campsite in January 2001, working 2 days a week as a casual cook.  In 2004 she became a full-time member of staff and since then has taken on a number of senior roles.  As the Hospitality Coordinator, Cathie oversees all aspects of catering and the smooth running of the kitchen.  As the Retreat Centre Coordinator, Cathie takes great care to maintain the high standards that make the Riverview Retreat Centre a special place to stay.  She’s regularly busy in the office answering phones, doing the banking and liaising closely with clients to ensure that all their needs are met during their stay.

Cathie is mum to 2 adult children.  Cathie has been involved in catering for camps and functions for 30 years.  Cathie's passions are to serve others in practical ways and make sure each camp and function is special, unique, enjoyable and fun for the people involved.  She also enjoys meeting and talking to people of all ages.

Graeme Drechsler began working at Mylor in 2002 and is the Campsite’s Property Coordinator.  He has many strings to his long bow and has been involved in the design and construction of nearly all of the program equipment.  Graeme’s main role is to keep the equipment and buildings in good working order for your comfort, excitement and pleasure, but you’re just as likely to see him serving breakfast in the kitchen early in the morning, or find him drenching the 40-odd sheep that live on the property in the afternoon.
His Christian calling to the Mylor Campsite keeps him in good spirits for dealing with all the problems that are thrown his way.  Graeme’s motto is “You break it - I fix it, you want it - I make it”.

Lyn Wight has been on staff at Mylor since 1999.  She began working as a kitchen hand, then as a cook, and is currently the Catering Coordinator.  In this role she’s responsible for planning menus and food ordering.  Lyn enjoys experimenting with recipes and values the importance of providing nutritious and wholesome home-cooked meals and snacks.

Lyn is married with two teenage sons.  Together with her family she’s enjoyed many camping and outdoor experiences.  Lyn enjoys being part of a team that provides memorable and challenging camping experiences to a wide variety of groups.

Janet Prentice works in the kitchen as a cook.  Her love of cooking began she was a young wife and mother.  Before becoming part of the team at Mylor in 2004, Janet gained experience cooking for youth camps, working on the catering team of a large church and in a retirement hostel, as well as catering for family birthdays and weddings.  She enjoys interacting with people of all different ages and from all walks of life, and loves to see people enjoying their food in the warm atmosphere of the Campsite.

Janet is mum to 3 married daughters and Nanna to 6 grandchildren.  She believes children need to experience the outdoors, but often don’t because of the abundance of indoor activities, computer games and urban living.  Enjoying a camp experience is a great way of meeting this need.

Anne White began working part-time in the kitchen at Mylor in early 2007.  Since then her duties have expanded to also include serving food in Riverview Retreat Centre.  Anne is mum to three terrific kids and marriend to Randal.

Trainees
Each year a number of trainees are employed at Mylor Campsite.  Trainees complete a nationally recognised Certificate III course in Outdoor Recreation through Wirraway Training, while undertaking on-the-job training at the Campsite.

In 2008, we’re excited and extremely lucky to have three terrific young men employed as Trainees.  Josh, Wade and Kin are the people you’ll see most often and get to know best during your visit to Mylor – they’re the primary instructors for all of the program activities. When they’re not instructing they can be found doing a myriad of other tasks - helping Graeme out with the sheep, making messes in the kitchen, cleaning up messes (not theirs) just about everywhere else, and always making a serious dent in the leftovers stored in the staff room fridge!

Employment

Applications for 2009 Trainee program which is a recognised Commonwealth Government Traineeship for young people aged 18 – 30 will be advertised in September 08.  Details of the Trainee Program (which provides successful graduates with a Certificate III qualification in Outdoor Recreation) and an application form are available here: Mylor Trainee Brochure
