General

BC(SA) has developed and implemented OHS&W policies and procedures that apply to all programs and services delivered by and through the organisation, including the Mylor Campsite.  If you require further information about BC(SA) OHS&W policies and procedures, please contact the Human Resources Manager.

In addition to BC(SA) policies and procedures, Mylor Campsite is operated in accordance with a set of site specific OHS&W policies and procedures.  Details of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for all program activities can be supplied on request.  If you require further information about Mylor Campsite OHS&W policies and procedures, please contact the Campsite Manager.

Insurance

The Baptist Union of Australia (BUA) carries General and Products Liability Insurance (Public Liability Insurance) through Ansvar Insurance which covers all aspects of operations conducted by Baptist Care (SA) Inc.  A copy of the BUA Certificate of Currency can be provided on request.

Campsite Induction Talk

A campsite induction talk is delivered by senior Adventure Camping staff to all groups at the commencement of each visit to Mylor Campsite.  The talk includes an introduction to the site and explanations of safety issues and daily procedures.

Swimming in the Onkaparinga River

Swimming in the Onkaparinga River at the Mylor Campsite is not permitted, unless conducted as part of a canoeing program under the supervision of Adventure Camping staff and in accordance with the standard operating procedure.

First Aid

Adventure Camping staff members have completed Senior First Aid or Basic Emergency Life Support training and can render assistance to visitors.  First aid kits are carried by staff while conducting supervised program activities.

Because Adventure Camping staff are not present on-site 24 hours a day (e.g. after meal times, during activities not directly supervised by BC(SA) staff), every group that visits Mylor is responsible for providing:

  • Appropriately qualified first-aiders, to whom all campers in need of assistance will be directed.  Please note that qualified first aiders should make themselves known to the Campsite Manager and/or Program Co-ordinator upon arrival.
  • At least one First Aid Kit appropriate for the activities to be undertaken during the visit.
  • For the management of any known chronic and/or acute health issues with campers.

Bush Fire Procedures

A comprehensive Bush Fire plan is included in the Information Pack which is sent out to group co-ordinators approximately three weeks before the start date of each camp.  Copies of the plan are distributed around the campsite.

If a day of extreme fire danger is forecast for the following day, the Mylor Campsite staff  will advise the group co-ordinator(s) of the danger, and ascertain whether they wish to:

  • Leave the Campsite, at the latest by 10.00 am on the day of extreme fire danger, or
  • Remain on site and continue with the planned or a revised program

The Campsite Manager reserves the right to instruct any group to evacuate if it is considered unsafe to remain on site.

Please note that Mylor Campsite is a Country Fire Service (CFS) recognised safe area.
